History:
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet entered service in the 1980s as one of the first true multirole fighters capable of both air-to-air combat and ground-attack missions. The F/A-18D, a twin-seat version, was widely adopted by the United States Marine Corps, providing enhanced capabilities for night attack and forward air control missions. During operations such as Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and ongoing deployments, the Hornet has proved itself as a reliable, adaptable, and powerful aircraft. Its versatility and effectiveness made it a cornerstone of USMC aviation for decades before being gradually replaced by the F-35B Lightning II.
