History

The K9 Thunder, developed in South Korea in the late 1990s, quickly became one of the most successful modern self-propelled howitzers in the world. The upgraded K9A1 variant, introduced in the 2010s, incorporated improved navigation systems, enhanced fire control, and increased automation to boost efficiency and crew survivability. Armed with a 155mm/52-calibre gun, the K9A1 can deliver rapid, sustained fire at ranges exceeding 40km with precision-guided munitions. The system has been widely adopted not only by South Korea but also by several allied nations, including Finland, Norway, and Australia. Its combination of firepower, mobility, and advanced technology has made the K9A1 a benchmark in modern artillery warfare.
