History

The M113 armoured personnel carrier, introduced in the 1960s, became one of the most widely used armoured vehicles in the world. Israel, a major operator of the M113, modified many of its vehicles for specialised battlefield roles. The M113 Fitter is the recovery and maintenance version, equipped with a crane for lifting heavy components, such as tank engines and turrets, and performing essential repairs under combat conditions. Widely employed by the Israeli Defense Force from the 1970s onward, the Fitter played a key role in ensuring the operational readiness of Israel’s armoured units. Its adaptability and utility made it a vital support asset in modern conflicts.
