History

The B-25 Mitchell became one of the most versatile and widely used medium bombers of World War II, serving in every theatre of operations. The US Marine Corps adopted its own version, designated PBJ, for use in the Pacific campaign. The PBJ-1D variant was fitted with radar for maritime patrol and often equipped with additional forward-firing guns, making it highly effective in anti-shipping strikes, close air support, and interdiction missions. Deployed from 1943 onwards, Marine PBJs operated from island bases across the Pacific, striking Japanese supply lines and coastal positions. Their adaptability and ruggedness ensured their value long after introduction, and they remain a symbol of Marine Corps aviation during WWII.
