History:
The Tupolev Tu-160, nicknamed “Blackjack” by NATO, was introduced in the 1980s as a supersonic strategic bomber. It remains the heaviest combat aircraft in the world and was developed to counter Western long-range bombers such as the B-1B Lancer. Capable of delivering nuclear and conventional weapons, the Tu-160 has been modernised to extend its service life, ensuring its continued role within Russia’s strategic forces. Its combination of speed, range, and payload capacity makes it one of the most formidable bombers ever built.
