History: The Douglas SBD Dauntless was the primary dive bomber of the US Navy and Marine Corps in the early years of World War II. The SBD-1 variant, introduced in 1940, equipped Marine Corps squadrons and was quickly deployed in the Pacific theatre. Known for its ruggedness and precision in dive-bombing attacks, the Dauntless gained fame for its decisive role at the Battle of Midway, where it was instrumental in sinking several Japanese carriers. The SBD remains one of the most iconic naval aircraft of the war.
