History: The Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless was the primary dive bomber of the US Navy at the start of World War II. By June 1942, it was at the forefront during the Battle of Midway, where SBD squadrons delivered devastating blows to the Japanese carrier fleet, sinking four carriers in just a matter of days. Despite being considered outdated by some at the time, the Dauntless proved its worth with rugged construction, accuracy in dive-bombing, and reliable performance. Its success at Midway turned the tide of the Pacific War, cementing its place as one of the most effective naval aircraft in history.
