History:

The USS Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) was the first of a class of guided-missile frigates commissioned by the US Navy in the late 1970s. Named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, a hero of the War of 1812, the ship was designed as a cost-effective escort vessel to protect convoys, amphibious groups, and carrier battle groups. Armed with a Mk 13 missile launcher, 76 mm OTO Melara gun, and advanced sonar systems, the Perry-class frigates played a crucial role during the Cold War, conducting patrol, escort, and anti-submarine operations. Many ships of this class were later transferred to allied navies, extending their service life well into the 21st century.
