AFV Club Plastic Model Kit
Australian Army M113A1 Diehl 513B Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (1/35)
This AFV Club kit builds a detailed 1/35 scale model of the Australian Army’s M113A1 fitted with Diehl 513B tracks, a configuration used in light reconnaissance and patrol roles. The kit captures the familiar M113 hull with clean moulding, sharp surface detail and a well-defined interior layout where applicable. External fittings such as stowage bins, lights, tools and hatches are crisply reproduced, giving the model the layered look characteristic of upgraded Australian-service vehicles.
The Diehl 513B track system is represented with precise link detail, and the suspension components are engineered to match the vehicle’s field appearance. The turret and weapon mount assemblies offer good detail, and the kit lends itself well to Australian camouflage schemes, weathering and operational load-outs. It’s a versatile subject suited to both standalone display and diorama settings.

History
The Australian Army operated various modified versions of the M113A1, adapting the versatile APC to meet reconnaissance and patrol requirements. The Light Reconnaissance Vehicle configuration paired the proven M113 chassis with enhanced mobility features, including Diehl 513B tracks, and mission-specific fittings. These vehicles provided a reliable, adaptable platform capable of moving quickly across challenging terrain while supporting surveillance and light combat tasks.
The M113 family served as a backbone of Australian armoured mobility for decades, and variants like the LRV highlight the flexibility of the design. Its long operational history across exercises and deployments makes it a popular and distinctive modelling subject.
