Bristol Blenheim Mk.IF Fighter

When the Second World War began in September 1939, the Royal Air Force had more Bristol Blenheims in service than any other aircraft type. Although primarily operated as a light bomber, around 200 Blenheims were converted into long-range fighters and night-fighters to meet an important operational requirement during the early years of the conflict.

These modified Blenheim Mk.IF aircraft received a ventral pack beneath the fuselage containing four forward-firing 0.303 machine guns. The specialised components and their mounting frames were produced at the Southern Railway workshops in Ashford, Kent, reflecting the wider industrial effort supporting British wartime aircraft production.
