Royal Navy Tribal Class Destroyer

HMS Cossack was one of 16 British Tribal Class destroyers, a class developed as powerful and heavily armed warships. Their combination of substantial firepower, speed and agility made them well suited to the demands of modern naval operations at the outbreak of the Second World War.

Cossack became particularly well known for the Altmark Incident in February 1940. Her crew boarded the German supply vessel Altmark in Norwegian waters and freed more than 300 Allied sailors who had been captured during the commerce-raiding operations of the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee.
