HMS Prince – A 100-Gun First Rate

HMS Prince, also known as the Royal Prince, was one of the most powerful warships of her era. Launched in December 1670, she was built as a 100-gun first-rate ship of the line and became the first flagship of the Duke of York in his role as Lord High Admiral of the Royal Navy.

During her long service career, HMS Prince took part in major naval battles and sustained damage on several occasions. The ship underwent at least two reconstructions before eventually being dismantled in 1813, bringing to an end a remarkable period of service spanning more than a century.
