North American F-86 Sabre

The F-86 Sabre represented an important step forward in fighter aircraft development, combining swept-wing aerodynamics with a design noted for its pilot-friendly handling and dependable performance. Its armament comprised six 0.50cal M3 Browning machine guns, reflecting the period before guided rockets became standard fighter armament.

Nearly 10,000 Sabres were built, and the aircraft went on to serve with around 30 different air forces. Its success also led to licensed production in Canada, Australia, Japan and Italy, establishing the Sabre as one of the most widely recognised and successful jet fighters of the Cold War era.
