A Daring Mission Following Pearl Harbor
In the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States developed a bold plan to strike at the heart of Japan and demonstrate its determination to achieve ultimate victory.
On 18 April 1942, sixteen B-25B Mitchell bombers took off from the comparatively short flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet and headed towards Tokyo. The aircraft were crewed by volunteers who accepted the considerable risks involved in this unprecedented mission.
