AK Interactive Africa Dust Effects

AK Interactive Africa Dust Effects is an enamel-based weathering product developed to reproduce the light tan dust found on vehicles operating in arid and desert environments. Supplied in a 35ml bottle, it can be used to add dusty tones and grime to military vehicles, dioramas and groundwork.

The effect is suitable for Africa Korps, British and modern subjects. Although the product may appear slightly green inside the bottle, it dries primarily brown, creating a dusty desert finish. It can be applied in controlled areas or across larger surfaces, depending on the effect required.

Creating Dust and Grime Effects

Apply Africa Dust Effects with a brush or airbrush to build the required layer of desert dust. Once applied, the finish can be faded and blended using a brush moistened with White Spirit. This softens transitions and helps prevent the dusty finish from appearing too uniform.

The product can be worked around panels, running gear, lower vehicle surfaces and other areas where dust and dirt would naturally collect. It is also suitable for adding dusty variation to diorama surfaces and groundwork. As an enamel product, it remains workable during blending, allowing the intensity and placement of the effect to be adjusted.

Applying Vertical Streaks

Africa Dust Effects can also be used to reproduce streaking grime on vertical surfaces. Apply thin vertical lines with a fine brush and leave them to dry for approximately 10 minutes. Then soften and blend the lines with a flat brush dampened with thinner. This process creates more natural dirt marks while reducing hard edges.

Varying the length and strength of the streaks can help create a less uniform finish. The same blending method can be used to refine accumulated dust and connect individual marks with the surrounding weathering.
