Arma Hobby Plastic Model Kit

Arma Hobby Hawker Hurricane Mk IIb Set (1/48) 40007

The Arma Hobby Hawker Hurricane Mk IIb Set is a superbly detailed 1/48 scale model kit of one of the Royal Air Force’s most important fighters of WWII. Developed from the original Hurricane by fitting the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine, the Mk IIb combined improved performance with heavier armament, making it an effective fighter and later an accomplished fighter-bomber.

This modern tooling has been engineered to provide exceptional levels of detail and excellent fit throughout. The kit includes finely moulded plastic parts, a dedicated sprue for the Mk IIb variant, high-quality decals for three historical aircraft and precision-cut masks for the canopy and wheels, helping achieve a professional finish with minimal preparation.

Three authentic marking options are included, representing aircraft from the Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and Polish Air Force serving with the RAF. The aircraft featured include the famous “Butch the Falcon” of No. 402 Squadron RCAF, “Hyderabad City” of No. 253 Squadron RAF and an aircraft of No. 302 Polish Squadron, allowing builders to display different operators of this versatile fighter.

The Hawker Hurricane’s rugged construction and stable flying characteristics made it ideal for a wide variety of missions. As the air war evolved, the Mk IIb increasingly served as a fighter-bomber, carrying bombs beneath its wings while retaining its formidable battery of twelve .303 machine guns. Arma Hobby has accurately reproduced these features, making this an excellent choice for both RAF enthusiasts and WWII aircraft modellers.

History

The Hawker Hurricane Mk IIb entered service during 1940 as an improved version of the famous Hurricane fighter that played such a crucial role during the Battle of Britain. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine, the Mk II offered improved speed and performance while the Mk IIb introduced twelve wing-mounted .303 Browning machine guns. Although initially intended as a fighter, the aircraft later proved highly successful as a fighter-bomber, earning the nickname “Hurribomber” while supporting Allied ground forces in Europe, North Africa and the Far East. Throughout the war the Hurricane remained one of Britain’s most dependable combat aircraft, serving in numerous theatres and with many Allied air forces.
