This 1/48 scale die-cast model from Corgi depicts the Fokker Dr.1 Triplane flown by Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen on 21st April 1918—the same day his cousin, Manfred von Richthofen, the “Red Baron,” was killed in action. As a novice pilot with Jasta 11, Wolfram had been instructed to avoid combat, yet an encounter with Sopwith Camels drew him into one of the First World War’s most legendary aerial clashes.

On this mission, Wolfram was attacked by Canadian pilot Wilfred “Wop” May, another newcomer to combat. As May broke away, he was pursued by the Red Baron in what became Manfred’s final chase, ending with his death over Morlancourt Ridge. Wolfram survived, later becoming an ace and serving as a Luftwaffe General in the Second World War. This model captures the atmosphere of that fateful day, highlighting the little-known role Wolfram played in one of aviation history’s most famous encounters.
