History
The Sidcot suit, introduced in 1917 by Australian pilot Sidney Cotton, was a major innovation in pilot comfort and protection during World War I. Designed to keep aviators warm at high altitudes, the suit featured layers of windproof and insulating materials without restricting movement. It quickly became standard issue for many pilots in the Royal Flying Corps and later the Royal Air Force. Its effectiveness allowed aviators to undertake longer missions in open cockpit aircraft, significantly improving operational capability during the final years of the war.
