History
The Hawker Sea Fury was developed during the final stages of the Second World War as an evolution of the Hawker Tempest. Designed to operate from aircraft carriers, it featured a strengthened airframe, folding wings, and improved handling characteristics suited to naval operations.
Powered by the Bristol Centaurus radial engine, the Sea Fury achieved exceptional performance, becoming one of the fastest piston-engine fighters ever built. Its streamlined design and powerful engine provided excellent speed, climb rate, and manoeuvrability, making it highly effective in a variety of roles.
Although it arrived too late to see combat in the Second World War, the Sea Fury went on to serve extensively in the post-war period. It saw action during the Korean War, where it was one of the few piston-engine aircraft to successfully engage jet-powered opponents. Its versatility allowed it to perform ground-attack missions, air defence, and reconnaissance tasks.
The Sea Fury remains a highly regarded aircraft, representing the peak of piston-engine fighter development. Its combination of performance, adaptability, and robust construction ensured its place as one of the most successful naval fighters of its era.
