The Gecko Models British Bedford OYD Armadillo Mk. III Armoured Truck (1/35) is a finely detailed scale replica of one of Britain’s improvised armoured vehicles from the Second World War. Built for home defence and airfield protection, the Armadillo combined the sturdy Bedford OYD chassis with steel-plated armour and defensive weaponry, providing an emergency solution to wartime shortages.

History: The Bedford OYD Armadillo Mk. III was developed during the early stages of WWII as a stopgap armoured vehicle for defending RAF airfields and vital installations across Britain. Constructed using the reliable Bedford OYD truck platform, the Armadillo featured wooden and metal armour plating and carried machine guns mounted on its open rear platform. Despite its improvised nature, it played a crucial role in homeland defence during the critical years before mass production of purpose-built armoured vehicles became possible.
This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
