History: The Marder II (“marten” in English) was a German tank destroyer of World War II based on the Panzer II chassis. Developed as a response to the increasing threat of heavily armoured Soviet tanks, two main versions were produced — one equipped with a modified Soviet 7.62 cm gun adapted to fire German ammunition, and another using the German 7.5 cm Pak 40 anti-tank gun. Though its open-topped armour offered limited crew protection, the Marder II’s improved firepower made it a vital asset during 1942 and 1943. Today, only four examples are known to survive, standing as a testament to its role in armoured warfare history.
