History:
The 7.5cm Panzerabwehrkanone 40 (Pak 40) was one of Germany’s most effective and widely used anti-tank guns during World War II. Designed to counter increasingly well-armoured Allied tanks, development began in 1939 and the Pak 40 entered service in 1941. It quickly became the standard German anti-tank gun, replacing the smaller 5cm Pak 38.
The gun fired a 75mm shell capable of penetrating most Allied armour at standard combat ranges. Its relatively simple construction and high rate of fire made it a favourite among crews. The early production variant featured a straightforward split-trail carriage and the recognisable angular gun shield that offered some protection to its crew.
By the end of the war, over 20,000 Pak 40s had been produced and saw service on all fronts, from North Africa to the Eastern and Western Fronts. Despite being towed by trucks or half-tracks, it was often deployed in static defensive roles where it could effectively ambush Allied armoured formations.
This 1/16 scale kit from Gecko Models delivers an exceptional reproduction of the early production Pak 40, with mechanical detail and dimensional accuracy that make it a must-have for collectors and modellers alike.
