History

At the outbreak of World War II, British armoured units were still in a state of rapid evolution. The British Expeditionary Force in France fielded a variety of armoured fighting vehicles supported by well-trained tank crews. These men often wore practical uniforms adapted for life inside cramped armoured compartments, including leather jerkins for warmth, padded tank helmets, and intercom headsets for communication. This set recreates the quiet tension before battle or moments of regrouping between operations. From France in 1940 to North Africa’s early campaigns, the tank crews of this era displayed resilience and professionalism under fire. Gecko’s detailed rendering of these figures pays homage to their often-overlooked contribution in the formative years of the conflict.
