History

The United States Navy Blue Angels adopted the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet in 1986, replacing the A-4 Skyhawk after more than a decade of service. The Hornet’s outstanding agility, high thrust-to-weight ratio and fly-by-wire flight controls allowed the team to perform even more dynamic and precise aerobatic displays while demonstrating the capabilities of front-line naval aviation. Flying their distinctive blue and yellow aircraft at air shows across the United States and around the world, the Blue Angels continue to inspire millions of spectators each year and remain one of the world’s oldest and most respected military flight demonstration teams.
