History

The Saab J35 Draken entered Swedish Air Force service in 1960 and became one of the world’s first fully operational supersonic interceptors capable of flying at twice the speed of sound. Its innovative double-delta wing provided excellent high-speed performance while maintaining good low-speed handling for take-off and landing. The improved J35F variant introduced enhanced radar, more powerful avionics and upgraded missile capability, making it Sweden’s principal air defence fighter throughout much of the Cold War. The Draken also served with the air forces of Denmark, Finland and Austria, remaining in operational use into the early 21st century and earning a reputation as one of Europe’s most successful indigenous fighter designs.
