Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit
Hasegawa J35O Draken Austrian Black Special (1/48) HALE07565
The Hasegawa J35O Draken Austrian Black Special is a highly detailed 1/48 scale plastic model kit celebrating the final operational flight of the Saab J35O Draken with the Austrian Air Force. Finished in the distinctive all-black commemorative scheme unveiled in December 2005, this special edition recreates one of the most eye-catching farewell aircraft ever flown by the Draken.
The completed model measures approximately 323.5mm in length with a wingspan of 198mm. Hasegawa faithfully captures the unique double-delta wing, streamlined fuselage and distinctive profile of the famous Swedish-designed interceptor. Finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, realistic landing gear and crisp moulding throughout combine to produce an outstanding replica suitable for both straight-from-the-box builders and experienced modellers.
The included decal sheet reproduces aircraft “21” of the Austrian Air Force’s 1st Combat Squadron in its special retirement markings carried during the Draken’s farewell flights in 2005. The striking black finish makes this aircraft a unique centrepiece in any collection of modern military aircraft.

History
The Saab J35 Draken served with the Austrian Air Force from 1987 after being acquired from Sweden to provide a capable supersonic interceptor for Austrian air defence. Designated the J35O, the aircraft remained in frontline service for almost two decades before being retired in December 2005. To mark the end of Draken operations, aircraft “21” of the 1st Combat Squadron received a striking black commemorative paint scheme for its farewell flights. The Draken’s unique double-delta wing, impressive performance and long operational career have ensured its place as one of Europe’s most iconic Cold War fighter aircraft.
