Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit
Hasegawa F-4EJ Kai Phantom II (1/72) HAE37
The Hasegawa F-4EJ Kai Phantom II is a highly detailed 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the upgraded Phantom interceptor operated by the Japan Air Self-Defence Force (J.A.S.D.F.). The F-4EJ Kai was developed to extend the operational life of Japan’s Phantom fleet while significantly improving its combat capability through modern avionics, radar and structural enhancements.
Hasegawa accurately recreates the distinctive appearance of the upgraded Phantom with finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, realistic landing gear and sharply moulded external features. The kit captures the unique characteristics of the Kai modernisation programme, making it an excellent representation of one of Japan’s most recognisable Cold War fighters.
The comprehensive decal sheet includes markings for aircraft from three frontline J.A.S.D.F. units: 302nd Squadron at Naha Air Base, 306th Squadron at Komatsu Air Base and 301st Squadron at Nyutabaru Air Base. Combined with Hasegawa’s renowned fit and moulding quality, this kit provides an enjoyable project for both experienced aircraft modellers and Phantom enthusiasts.

History
The Mitsubishi F-4EJ Phantom II entered service with the Japan Air Self-Defence Force in the early 1970s as the country’s primary air defence fighter. During the 1980s, a comprehensive upgrade programme created the F-4EJ Kai (“Kai” meaning modified), equipping the aircraft with improved radar, mission computers, navigation systems and structural enhancements to extend its operational service life. The upgraded Phantom remained one of Japan’s principal interceptor aircraft for decades, serving with units across the country until its retirement in 2021. The F-4EJ Kai became an iconic symbol of Japanese military aviation and one of the last frontline Phantom variants to remain in operational service anywhere in the world.
Glue and paints are sold separately.
