Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit

F4U-5M Corsair – US Navy/U.S.M.C (1/48) 09075

This 1/48 scale plastic model kit from Hasegawa represents the F4U-5M Corsair, one of the most advanced developments of the famous Corsair series. Produced after WWII, the F4U-5 featured extensive modernisation and became one of the fastest piston-engined fighters in U.S. Navy service, even surpassing the top speed of the F8F-2 at the time.

The kit contains 129 parts and captures the distinctive inverted gull wings, powerful engine cowling, and refined fuselage of this late-variant Corsair. Fine engraved surface detail and accurate proportions allow for a faithful representation of the aircraft as operated by the US Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. Once assembled, the completed model measures approximately 219mm in length with a wingspan of 260mm.

History

The F4U-5 was introduced after WWII as a significantly improved version of the wartime Corsair. It featured engine enhancements, aerodynamic refinements, and upgraded systems that increased both performance and reliability.

The F4U-5M variant was adapted for specialised roles, including night and all-weather operations, extending the operational life of the Corsair into the early jet age. Its speed and versatility ensured that the Corsair remained a capable frontline fighter even as aviation technology rapidly advanced.
