Hasegawa Kawanishi H8K2 Type 2 Flying Boat Model 12 (1/72) HAE45

The Hasegawa Kawanishi H8K2 Type 2 Flying Boat Model 12 is a highly detailed 1/72 scale plastic model kit of one of the finest flying boats developed during the Second World War. Known to the Allies by the reporting name “Emily”, the H8K2 combined exceptional range, heavy defensive armament and excellent seaworthiness, making it one of the most capable maritime patrol aircraft of its era.

Hasegawa faithfully reproduces the impressive four-engine flying boat with finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, realistic hull, engine nacelles and defensive gun positions. The large 1/72 scale highlights the aircraft’s distinctive high-mounted wing, stabilising floats and elegant hull design, offering plenty of scope for advanced detailing and weathering.

Renowned for outstanding engineering and crisp moulding quality, Hasegawa’s kit provides excellent fit throughout and builds into an impressive centrepiece for any collection of Second World War aircraft. History

The Kawanishi H8K Type 2 Flying Boat entered service with the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1942 and was widely regarded as one of the finest flying boats of the Second World War. The improved H8K2 Model 12 featured more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity and enhanced defensive armament, enabling extremely long-range maritime patrol, reconnaissance, transport and bombing missions across the Pacific. Its excellent handling on open water and remarkable combat durability earned respect from both Japanese crews and Allied forces, who gave it the reporting name “Emily”. Although produced in relatively limited numbers, the H8K2 remains one of the most advanced and capable flying boats ever built.
