Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit
Kyushu J7W1 Shinden (1/48) 09122
This 1/48 scale plastic model kit from Hasegawa represents the Kyushu J7W1 Shinden, one of the most unconventional Japanese aircraft designs of WWII. Featuring a forward-mounted canard wing and rear pusher propeller configuration, the Shinden stood out dramatically from conventional fighter layouts.
The kit accurately captures the aircraft’s distinctive silhouette, including its sharply swept wings, large vertical stabiliser, and nose-mounted armament. Finely engraved surface detail and carefully moulded components allow for a precise representation of this experimental interceptor. The unusual configuration makes it a striking addition to any collection of late-war aircraft.

History
The J7W1 Shinden was developed as a high-speed interceptor intended to counter high-altitude Allied bombers. Its canard configuration placed the horizontal stabiliser at the front of the aircraft, while the engine drove a rear-mounted propeller, optimising forward firepower and pilot visibility.
Although innovative and promising on paper, the Shinden flew only in prototype form before the end of the war. Despite its limited operational history, it remains one of the most fascinating and forward-thinking aircraft designs produced by Japan during WWII.
