Introduced in 1978, its innovative design generated exceptional cornering performance and inspired an entirely new generation of Formula One cars. Variants of the Lotus 79 continued to compete during the 1979 season, where teams and private entrants campaigned the famous chassis against increasingly competitive rivals.
