History

The Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless entered service with the United States Navy before the United States entered the Second World War and quickly proved itself as one of the conflict’s most effective naval aircraft. During the Battle of Midway in June 1942, Dauntless dive bombers from American aircraft carriers sank four Japanese fleet carriers, a decisive victory that shifted the balance of power in the Pacific. Despite being slower than many contemporary fighters, the SBD combined exceptional diving accuracy, rugged construction and impressive survivability, remaining a vital part of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps operations throughout the war. Its achievements secured the Dauntless a permanent place among the most important combat aircraft of the Second World War.

Glue and paints are sold separately.
