The Hasegawa HSS-2B Sea King J.M.S.D.F. is a highly detailed 1/48 scale plastic model kit of the Japanese licence-built version of the famous Sikorsky Sea King helicopter. Operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), the HSS-2B became one of Japan’s most important anti-submarine warfare helicopters, serving aboard destroyers and from shore bases for many years.

History

The HSS-2B was the Japanese licence-built version of the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force. Entering service during the Cold War, it became the backbone of Japan’s maritime anti-submarine warfare capability, operating from both land bases and helicopter-equipped destroyers. Equipped with sonar, radar and anti-submarine weapons, the HSS-2B played a vital role in protecting Japan’s surrounding waters for decades before eventually being replaced by newer helicopter designs. The Sea King’s proven reliability and versatility made it one of the most successful naval helicopters ever built.
