Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit

Hasegawa Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai “George” (1/72) HAA06

The Hasegawa Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai “George” is a highly detailed 1/72 scale plastic model kit of one of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s most capable fighter aircraft of the Second World War. Known to Allied forces by the reporting name “George”, the Shiden Kai combined exceptional manoeuvrability with heavy firepower, making it one of Japan’s finest late-war fighters.

Part of Hasegawa’s popular A Series, this kit includes finely moulded plastic parts, clear canopy components, high-quality waterslide decals and an easy-to-follow illustrated assembly and colour guide. The aircraft’s streamlined fuselage, broad wings and powerful radial engine are accurately reproduced, while the compact 1/72 scale provides an enjoyable build suitable for modellers of all experience levels.

Hasegawa’s precise tooling delivers excellent fit and crisp surface detail throughout, allowing builders to achieve an authentic finish with minimal effort. Whether displayed alongside other Pacific War aircraft or as a standalone model, the Shiden Kai makes an impressive addition to any collection.

History

The Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai entered service in 1944 as an improved land-based development of the earlier N1K1 fighter. Designed specifically to counter advanced Allied aircraft such as the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair, it featured a lighter airframe, simplified construction and exceptional handling characteristics. Armed with four 20mm cannon and powered by a Mitsubishi NK9H Homare engine, the Shiden Kai was regarded by many as Japan’s finest piston-engined fighter. Although introduced too late and produced in relatively small numbers, it earned the respect of both Japanese and Allied pilots for its outstanding combat performance during the final stages of the Second World War.

Glue and paints are sold separately.
