The Hasegawa 1989 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE92 GT-Z is a highly detailed 1/24 scale plastic model kit recreating the late-model GT-Z introduced in 1989. Developed from extensive research of the original vehicle, this kit faithfully reproduces one of Toyota’s most desirable front-wheel-drive performance coupes, combining distinctive styling with an impressive level of detail.

Based on the AE92 Levin tooling and enhanced with numerous newly tooled parts, this release accurately captures the unique appearance of the Trueno GT-Z. The body is moulded in white and features the correct late-model front bumper, bonnet with air intake bulge and retractable headlight system. Builders can choose between an optional moonroof or standard roof configuration, while both alloy wheels and standard wheels are included to create different factory specifications.

The retractable headlights can be displayed either open or closed, adding extra realism to the finished model. Chrome-plated wheels, mirrored headlight and tail light reflectors, mirrored auxiliary lamps, clear lenses and pre-cut window masking stickers all help create an authentic showroom-quality finish with minimal additional work.

History

Introduced in 1989, the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE92 GT-Z represented the highest-performance version of Toyota’s popular fifth-generation Corolla and Sprinter coupe. Powered by the supercharged 4A-GZE engine, the GT-Z delivered strong performance while maintaining the everyday practicality that made the AE92 range so successful. Unlike the earlier rear-wheel-drive AE86, the AE92 adopted front-wheel drive, improved aerodynamics and more advanced suspension, making it a capable sports coupe for both road use and motorsport. Today, the AE92 GT-Z has become a sought-after Japanese classic, appreciated for its distinctive pop-up headlights, supercharged engine and connection to Toyota’s celebrated performance heritage.
