IBG Models PZL M18B Dromader – Polish Firefighter Aircraft (1/48) 48001
The IBG Models PZL M18B Dromader is a detailed 1/48 scale model kit of one of the world’s most successful specialised firefighting and agricultural aircraft. Developed and manufactured in Poland, the Dromader was designed specifically for aerial application work and has become a familiar sight in firefighting operations across several continents.
The aircraft was engineered to carry large loads of water, fire retardant or agricultural chemicals while maintaining excellent low-speed handling characteristics. Its rugged construction, powerful radial engine and large hopper capacity allowed it to operate from relatively simple airfields and remote locations, making it highly effective in demanding environments.
The M18B variant became widely known for its role in aerial firefighting. During wildfire operations, the aircraft can deliver precise drops of water or retardant onto fire zones, helping ground crews contain and suppress dangerous blazes. Its ability to operate repeatedly from local airfields has made it a valuable tool for firefighting agencies around the world.
This IBG Models kit depicts the single-seat firefighting version of the aircraft and captures the distinctive appearance of the Dromader. The large wings, robust undercarriage and characteristic radial engine make it a unique subject among modern utility aircraft. The model is ideal for collections focused on firefighting aviation, civil aircraft or Polish aviation history.

History
The PZL M18 Dromader was developed during the 1970s by the Polish aerospace industry as a dedicated agricultural aircraft capable of carrying large payloads while operating from basic airstrips. Its design prioritised durability, simplicity and efficiency, resulting in an aircraft that proved highly successful both domestically and internationally.
Although originally intended for crop-spraying and agricultural duties, the Dromader quickly demonstrated its versatility in aerial firefighting. Equipped to carry water or fire-retardant loads, it became an important tool in combating wildfires in Europe, North America, Australia and other regions prone to seasonal fires.
The M18B variant further improved the aircraft’s capabilities and reliability. Decades after its introduction, the Dromader remains in active service with operators around the world and is widely regarded as one of the most successful specialised utility aircraft ever produced in Poland.
This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue and paints are sold separately.
