IBG Models Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb (Trop.) Over North Africa (1/72) 72592
The IBG Models Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb (Trop.) Over North Africa is a 1/72 scale plastic model kit representing one of the most recognisable desert-war versions of the famous British fighter. Fitted with tropical equipment for service in hot and dusty conditions, the Spitfire Mk Vb Trop became an important aircraft in the air battles over North Africa.
The tropical filter fitted beneath the nose gave the aircraft a distinctive appearance and helped protect the engine from sand and dust during operations from desert airfields. These aircraft were used by RAF and Allied units during a demanding campaign where heat, rough operating conditions and constant air combat placed heavy strain on both pilots and machines.
This kit is ideal for modellers interested in RAF desert camouflage schemes and Second World War aircraft used outside the European theatre. The Spitfire’s elegant lines, combined with the tropical filter and North African markings, make it an attractive subject in 1/72 scale.

History
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk V was one of the most important wartime developments of the Spitfire family. Introduced to counter improved enemy fighters, it combined the classic Spitfire airframe with increased performance and refined armament. The Mk Vb variant carried cannon and machine-gun armament, giving it strong firepower for fighter operations.
In North Africa, tropicalised Spitfires were adapted for desert conditions with additional filtration to protect the engine from dust and sand. These aircraft helped Allied forces contest air superiority over the desert and supported operations across Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. Their service in harsh conditions made the Spitfire Mk Vb Trop one of the most distinctive versions of the type.
This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
