Enhance a modern aerial firefighting display with this detailed ICM S-64E helicopter fire tank kit. Designed as a 1/35 scale accessory for the Sikorsky S-64E, the 73-part model recreates the aircraft’s specialised firefighting container with true-to-scale geometry and proportions.

The completed tank measures 155 mm long and 66 mm wide. It can be mounted directly beneath the helicopter fuselage or positioned separately on its dedicated support frame, providing two versatile presentation options for a detailed aircraft scene or standalone equipment display.

The S-64E Firefighting System

The Sikorsky S-64E is a heavy-lift helicopter adapted for large-scale aerial firefighting. Its specialised aluminium tank has a capacity of 10,000 litres and is typically loaded with 9,000–9,500 litres to support optimal flight dynamics. Internal vertical baffles stabilise the liquid payload during flight, helping the helicopter retain control while carrying water, foam or fire retardant.

A geared door mechanism controls the tank’s discharge. The full load can be released in 2.5 seconds, while the system can also perform up to four precise partial drops during a mission. This combination allows the firefighting aircraft to direct its payload onto major fires with flexibility.

Detailed Display Options

The real tank can be replenished through two intake arrangements. A 12-metre pond snorkel uses an end pump to draw water from sources only 45–50 cm deep while the helicopter hovers. The sea snorkel skims the surface and fills the tank as the aircraft taxis across open water at 35–45 knots. The system can achieve a surge capacity of up to 30,000 gallons, or 114,000 litres, per hour.
