ICM Lockheed Hudson Mk. III 1/48 Scale Model Kit

The Hudson began with a British Purchasing Commission requirement for a maritime patrol aircraft in 1938. Lockheed responded with a redesigned Model 14 featuring a glazed nose for the navigator and bomb aimer. A contract for 200 aircraft followed in June 1938, beginning a service career that would see the Hudson undertake an unusually broad range of duties.

A Versatile WWII Aircraft

Although derived from a civilian airliner, the Hudson proved highly adaptable. Its operational roles included anti-submarine patrols, convoy escort work and bombing strikes. Hudson aircraft also supported covert missions by inserting resistance fighters into occupied Europe. Later in the war, the type continued to serve in transport and training duties.

The 1940 Hudson Mk. III was powered by two 1,200 hp Wright Cyclone radial engines. It also featured a retractable ventral gun, providing defensive coverage beneath and behind the aircraft. These characteristics make the Mk. III a distinctive subject for builders interested in RAF operations and multi-role aircraft of WWII.
