The ICM 35604 kit offers a unique insight into the command operations of one of WWII’s most famous generals, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery. This 1/35 scale set combines a detailed model of Montgomery’s Leyland Retriever-based mobile office with four finely sculpted figures, including Montgomery himself and members of his staff. The vehicle features a highly detailed interior with a writing desk, sofa, cabinets, and authentic wartime fittings, making it an ideal centrepiece for a historically accurate diorama.

History:

Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery was among the most distinguished Allied commanders of the Second World War. Rising through the ranks after his service in the First World War, he gained international recognition in 1942 when he led British forces to victory over Erwin Rommel at El Alamein. By 1943, Montgomery was commanding the 21st Army Group and later became Supreme Commander of Allied ground forces in Europe. A hallmark of his leadership style was his close involvement with his staff, coordinating campaigns from the field. To facilitate operations, a specially modified Leyland Retriever truck was converted into a mobile office, divided into compartments with working facilities and even personal comforts. Montgomery used this vehicle throughout the European campaign, making it a travelling headquarters during pivotal operations, including the Normandy landings and the push into Germany. The mobile office symbolised both the logistical ingenuity of the British Army and the command style of one of its most iconic leaders.
