The Ford Transit is a light commercial vehicle range which first entered production in 1965 as a joint venture between Ford Germany and Ford Great Britain. Prior to 1965 there had been a Ford Taunus Transit which was built by Ford of Germany in 1953. The Ford Transit Mk.2 was produced from 1978 1986. This Van was produced in both Fords Genk factory in Belgium as well as in Fords UK factories, initially in Langley before moving to Southampton due to higher demand than originally expected. This version depicts a Police Control Vehicle as used by the Metropolitan Police Force in the 1980’s. They were usually used during major traffic incidents, and during major public events, such as football matches, concerts, New Year celebrations etc. This 1:24 scale kit contains five separate sprues and can be built up both as a LHD or RHD version.
