History
The Dieppe Raid, also known as Operation Jubilee, took place on 19 August 1942 and was a large-scale Allied assault on the occupied French port of Dieppe. The operation involved British Commandos, Canadian infantry and supporting Allied forces, and was intended to test German coastal defences and gather intelligence for future amphibious landings.
British commando units were tasked with neutralising key gun positions and coastal batteries on the flanks of the main assault. Operating under intense fire, they demonstrated both courage and adaptability, achieving some of their objectives despite heavy resistance. Although the raid ultimately suffered severe losses, the lessons learned at Dieppe directly influenced the planning of later operations, most notably the Normandy landings in 1944.
This figure set reflects the dangerous, close-quarters fighting faced by the commandos during the raid, offering a historically grounded snapshot of a pivotal moment in the evolution of Allied amphibious warfare.
