Matho Models 1/35 Hinges B

Add finely detailed hinges to your 1/35 modelling projects with Hinges B from Matho Models. This photo-etch fret contains 40 hinges in four styles and sizes, offering a varied selection of small, angled, and ornamental hinge details.

The fret includes 17 small hinges, nine medium single angled hinges, nine medium double angled hinges and five large ornamental hinges. Each hinge has two sections that can bend in either direction relative to each other, allowing you to adjust the angle to the required position. A photo-etch bending tool is recommended for the best results. Doors and windows are not included.

Four Styles of Bendable Hinges

With 40 individual pieces, the set provides plenty of choice for adding repeated or varied hinge details across a 1/35 project. The different designs range from compact small hinges to larger ornamental examples, while the single- and double-angled medium hinges provide further options for different positions and arrangements.

The two-section construction allows each hinge to be carefully angled before installation rather than remaining completely flat. This makes the photo-etched pieces adaptable to your chosen arrangement.

Painting and Fitting the Hinges

Leave the hinges attached to the fret while carrying out the initial painting and weathering. Airbrush a layer of enamel paint and allow it to dry for 24 hours. This provides a harder base layer that is less likely to scratch during handling. Apply a second enamel layer after 24 hours for extra protection before continuing with acrylic or enamel colours and weathering products.

Place the fret on a hard surface such as wood or glass and cut each hinge free with a fresh knife. Clean any remaining attachment residue with a micro file where necessary. Use a photo-etch bending tool to set the required hinge angle, then handle the finished piece gently with tweezers while glueing it into position.

After fitting, any areas where the brass has become visible through cutting or handling can be touched up with the main colour using a very fine-tipped brush, completing the finish while retaining the fine photo-etched hinge detail.
