History:
The Merkava Mk.4M is the latest iteration of Israel’s indigenous main battle tank, first introduced in the early 2000s. Engineered with a strong focus on crew protection and battlefield survivability, the Mk.4M includes advanced modular armour, a powerful 120mm smoothbore gun, and the highly regarded Trophy active protection system—making it one of the first tanks to feature APS in operational use. The Merkava’s rear troop compartment allows it to serve as both a tank and armoured personnel carrier, a feature unique among MBTs. Deployed extensively in recent operations, the Mk.4M reflects Israel’s evolving doctrine of high mobility, digital command systems, and survivability in dense, urban combat environments.
