History:
During World War II, it became common practice for infantry to ride atop tanks and armoured vehicles to keep pace with fast-moving armoured assaults. US forces, particularly in the European theatre, often used this tactic to maintain momentum during offensive operations. These “tank riders” faced the constant risk of enemy fire and mines, but their presence improved coordination between infantry and armour. Sets like this reflect the gritty realism of combined arms warfare and the adaptability of frontline troops during key campaigns from Normandy to the Rhine.
