Aichi Type 99 Val Pearl Harbour (1/72) D-05

This 1/72 scale Aichi Type 99 Carrier Dive Bomber, commonly known by its Allied reporting name “Val”, represents the aircraft used during the attack on Pearl Harbour in December 1941. The Type 99 was a key element of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service and played a major role in the early successes of Japan in the Pacific.

The kit captures the distinctive fixed undercarriage, streamlined fuselage, and gull wing design of this famous dive bomber. History

The Aichi D3A, designated Type 99 by the Imperial Japanese Navy, entered service in the late 1930s. It became the primary carrier-based dive bomber of the Japanese fleet during the early years of the Second World War.

On 7 December 1941, Type 99 dive bombers launched from Japanese aircraft carriers participated in the attack on Pearl Harbour, targeting American warships and airfields. The aircraft continued to serve in numerous Pacific engagements, where its accuracy in dive bombing made it a formidable weapon in the early stages of the war.
