History

The Phl03 is a Chinese multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) developed in the early 2000s and based on the Russian BM-30 Smerch design. Mounted on a heavy truck chassis, it carries twelve 300mm launch tubes capable of firing long-range rockets fitted with a variety of warheads. The system was designed to provide long-range fire support, capable of striking targets up to 150 kilometres away. With improved electronics, navigation systems, and rocket technology, the Phl03 reflects China’s efforts to modernise its artillery forces in the 21st century. It has been widely deployed within the People’s Liberation Army and remains one of the most powerful rocket artillery systems in the region.
