History

The Leopard 2 programme began during the Cold War as Germany sought a highly capable successor to the Leopard 1. Entering service in 1979, the Leopard 2 quickly gained a reputation for combining firepower, protection and mobility at a level that set new standards for Western armoured forces. The Leopard 2A4 became one of the most widely produced variants and served as the foundation for many later upgrades.

Over the years the Leopard 2 has been adopted by numerous countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain and Greece. Continuous modernisation has allowed the design to remain effective well into the twenty-first century. The special anniversary markings reproduced in this kit were introduced in 2019 to celebrate forty years of Leopard 2 service and recognise the tank’s importance in modern military history.

This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
