The Leopard 2A6M CAN is Canada’s upgraded main battle tank variant of the German Leopard 2, equipped for operations in Afghanistan. It features mine protection enhancements, slat armour and a distinctive thermal cover for harsh environments. This 1/35 scale kit from Rye Field Models captures the full range of external modifications and modern battlefield fittings that distinguish the Canadian version from its NATO counterparts.

History

Canada acquired Leopard 2A6M tanks from Germany and the Netherlands to replace its ageing Leopard C2 fleet. The 2A6M CAN variant was modified for Canadian requirements, especially for deployment in Afghanistan. These modifications included mine protection under the hull, Barracuda thermal camouflage, and slat armour to protect against RPGs. The tank served with distinction in the Kandahar region, providing essential armoured support to infantry and patrol operations. Its performance in harsh terrain and under combat conditions reinforced the Leopard 2’s reputation as one of the world’s most capable modern MBTs.
