Special Hobby CAC CA.13 Boomerang Mk.I/II 1/72 Kit

Build Australia’s only indigenous fighter aircraft to see action during the Second World War with this 1/72 CAC Boomerang kit from Special Hobby. Covering the Mk.I and Mk.II, the model combines plastic and clear parts with 3D-printed details, resin wheels and resin exhausts.

The kit also provides five Royal Australian Air Force marking options. Each represents a machine from one of the five RAAF combat squadrons that operated the Boomerang, giving builders an excellent choice of aircraft and colour schemes.

Australia’s Emergency Fighter

The CAC Boomerang was the only Australian-built fighter to be operated during WWII. Boomerangs helped defend Australia and also served in New Guinea and on other islands, becoming an important home-grown aircraft for the RAAF during the conflict.

Three main production versions were created. The CA-12 was designated Boomerang Mk.I, followed by the CA-13 Boomerang Mk.II and the reconnaissance CA-19. These aircraft served with five RAAF combat squadrons as well as other units.

Plastic, Clear and Detail Parts

The model’s principal components are arranged on one sprue of plastic parts and one sprue of clear parts. A set of 3D-printed components adds detail to both the interior and exterior of the aircraft, expanding the scope of the build beyond the core plastic pieces.

Resin-cast wheels and exhausts are also included, providing dedicated components for these prominent areas. This combination of plastic, clear, 3D-printed and resin parts makes the kit an engaging multi-material project for builders of 1/72 aircraft.

Five RAAF Marking Options

The instructions and decal sheet offer one aircraft from each RAAF squadron that flew the Boomerang in combat. Four machines wear green-and-brown camouflage with light-blue undersurfaces, while the fifth is finished entirely in green.
